Pandemic Derived Workspaces
We all know that working from home can be both great and stressful at the same time. Not having to commute is an amazing thing but with so many distractions in the home it is easy to lose focus. Thats why this trend is all about creating a dedicated workspace. Most people working from home have decided to work directly from the bed, at the kitchen table or from the couch. The problem with this is that without a dedicated workspace you can get too comfortable, start to feel lazy (ask me how I know) or just be in the middle of daily activities happening within the home.
If you are like me, you need a dedicated quiet space to remain productive. So to start off, some of us don't have an actual home office where you can set up a permanent desk and close the door behind you for a "work time getaway". If you do, move on to the next section. If not, we are about to get into some of my favorite solutions. One of my favorite solutions is the closet workspace. Now with a closet workspace, the best case scenario is going to be someone who has a large walk in closet that you can put a small folding table or small desktop in a corner. Get a nice comfortable office chair and escape the distractions of every day life and get to work. For the person that doesn't have a Large walk, there are other spaces you can revert to. If you're trying to keep your privacy, an empty corner in your bedroom can work just as well. Have the house to yourself during the day? Then privacy might not be as important to you. At that point any spot in the house in fair game. A desk at the end of the kitchen island, on a blank wall in the living room, or even at the end of a dining room table will do the job.
A dedicated work space is exactly that, one spot anywhere within the home you dedicate to work and work only. When it comes to equipping your space and getting it ready to work, there are a few things you might want to add to promote productivity, avoid distractions, and to keep a tidy workspace. Promoting productivity is a big deal when it comes to at home work spaces. If you ask me, it is much more difficult to stay on task and focused at home than in an on-site position. One way I have found to keep productivity up, comes from a nice and comfortable office chair. If you have the extra money, then spring for a good one. A comfortable office chair with good back support can keep you from getting sore, keep you comfortable, and minimize the amount of times you need to get up and take a break.

Avoiding distractions is another key aspect to remaining productive within your home work space. Obviously a calm and quiet room is the best way to avoid distractions, but some of don't have that. Which is why over-the-ear noise canceling headphones are essential. Over-the-ear heaphones are great becaue you dont get that sore bothered feeling that you get from in-ear heaphones after long periods of time. Not only are they comfortable, but noise canceling headphones can take a loud and bothersome environment and turn it into a calming oasis at the press of a button. Simply turn on your favorite Lo-Fi tunes or mountain stream and escape to productivity heaven.
Last but not least in our home work space is cleanliness. Cleanliness is a very important part of productivity, and the perfect at home workspace. Nobody wants to wake up in the morning, sit down and see trash, snack wrappers, cups, papers, etc. all over their desk. It's a bad move for productivity and a bad way to start your day. So, any easy solutions? Of course there are. One of the best things to have at your work station is a little trash can, because if you're like me, you like to snack. get yourself a little trash can and throw out all the wrappers, scrap papers, mis prints, etc. laying around at your desk. Another great way to stay clean and tidy is to add some cable organizers in to the mix. Cable organizers are great for decluttering your space, giving you more room to work and creating a more eye appealing space to spend your work day. While folders and binders aren't bad for keeping papers and different projects separated, a lot of the time those same folders and binders end up just laying on your desk and creating a big mess for you to sort through every time you need something. So I would suggest a simple desktop folder organizer to keep all those papers organized and your space as tidy as can be.
