Home Decor Trends for 2022
There are only a few months left of what seems to be one of the longest years of our lives. With 2021 winding down and coming to an end, we are all looking forward to 2022 and wondering what the future holds. Between all the quarantines and working from home and even teaching kids from home, we have all spent so much more time indoors. It's only natural after all this time spent staring at four walls and the contents within to think about all the things you want to change and thinking about how you could make your spaces more comfortable, usable, stylish, or unique to your liking. With all of that in mind I wanted to walk you through some of the home decor trends that are up and coming for 2022 and how you can implement them within your own spaces. We are gonna go through some ideas as simple as trending colors and even get into the more complex ideas involving creating more comforting spaces for your family.
Alright, let's jump into this. Basic colors play a huge part in any home when talking about a certain style of decor, or a certain mood or feeling you are looking to get out of the space. As far as trending colors go, a lot of neutral tones are starting to make a big come back. Mainly because people have been stuck in their boldly colored spaces and it has started to become an annoyance over extended periods of time. When you spend as much time indoors as we have, you really need more relaxing and cozy feeling colors. Beige is back baby! In late 2020 and early 2021 the trend was already "naturalness" and the pandemic only exacerbated it. Let's be honest, many of us who got into their first home or even built a new home in the last 5-10 years probably already have beige walls and are one step ahead of the game. Beige tones can really add that certain level of comfort and welcoming warmness to a space. Add in a nice comfortable sitting space and plush throw blankets and pillows (we'll get into those more later), thats a space I could spend all day in and never think twice.
If you feel the need for more than just beige and "naturalness" in your life, we all know that blue has been in for some time now. Not just any certain blue, but the color palette as a whole. The blue trend is expected to continue into 2022 and might be here for some time. Adding Blue tones and shades in as accent colors will always add a nice calming effect to any decor. Blue creates psychological feelings of calmness and serenity. It is often described as peaceful, tranquil, secure, and orderly. Blue is often seen as a sign of stability and reliability. So to recap, beige is back baby and blue is cool!
Now that I've babbled on so long about colors, I'd like to get into one of the more furniture and decor related trends that is popping up now and is expected to be popular in 2022. One really big trend right now all comes down to one shape. Round. Round shapes are obviously not a new trend, it dates back to the Art Deco Era when rounded edges and round furniture in general took over its angular and hard cornered predecessors. Look around at any current designer furniture and you will see very little to no angular designs in their stores. This trend doesn't apply to just furniture, it applies to all the decor within a space to tie the whole look together. We're talking round or ovular mirrors, round lamp shades, "s" shaped light fixtures, soft abstract art, etc. The list goes on. There are so many ways to use this style to create an inviting and relaxing space, also to quite literally take the edge off.
This last trend is all about comfortable spaces. This has really come around so much more in the last year or so as a trending style that stemmed from all the time families have spent in their homes due to the pandemic. A comfortable space always starts exactly where you think it would. With the furniture. Obviously you always need nice, comfy seating. Wether that's a nice recliner, big comfortable couch, or even something as simple as a big love sac, you have to have a relaxing spot to sit or lay. Creating a comfortable space goes much deeper than just the furniture. Adding plush pillows and thick comfortable blankets is always a great way to add different color schemes and a few different textures to the space's decor. Another good way to add to a comfortable space is to place warm inviting art and trinkets around the room. At the end of the day, these are just items or art that make you feel good or make you feel comfortable in the space you are creating. Warm lighting or mood lighting is a must. In my personal opinion the best thing for a comfortable space is dimmable lighting. Add a dimmer switch and dimmable bulbs to an existing light fixture in the room or grab some dimmable lamps for your space. Now just set the room temperature a smidge on the cold side, wrap up in a nice warm blanket and enjoy your new favorite space!
